Special Education Regional Summits Registration is Now Open!

The Office for Exceptional Children Regional Special Education Leadership Summits are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

  • Southwest: January 19, 2017 at the Hope Hotel and Richard C. Holbrooke Conference Center, Dayton, Ohio
  • Northeast: January 26, 2017 at La Pizzaria, Canton, Ohio
  • Southeast: February 1, 2017 at Ohio University Baker Center, Athens, Ohio
  • Northwest: February 7, 2017 at Bowling Green State University Grand Ballroom at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Bowling Green, Ohio

At the Regional Summits, information will be presented and discussions will be generated around the topics of literacy, school climate and discipline, graduation options for students with disabilities and transition. Sessions will include updates regarding the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), as well as data and trends related to the state of special education in Ohio and at the national level.

Reminder:  Restraint and Seclusion Report Due December 16

The Ohio State Board of Education created rule and policy regarding the implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports. They went into effect during the 2013-2014 school year to prevent the use of restraint and/or seclusion. In addition, the state rule requires districts to annually submit a reporting of incidents of student restraint and seclusion to the Ohio Department of Education.
To ensure reporting accuracy across the state, there is an update to the reporting instructions. Please review the guidelines and sample forms for further clarification regarding restraint and seclusion documentation and reporting available here; scroll to the Restraint and Seclusion Survey section.
Your district’s completion of this survey will fulfill the reporting requirement of the above referenced rule. Please submit data from the 2015-2016 school year by the close of business on Dec. 16.
